Our purpose is to
walk alongside our Rangitahi
At TOA NZ, every journey begins with connection — to self, culture, and community. We do this through the facilitation of four core pathways over a 10–20 week period (equivalent to two school terms).
Our pathways are grounded in Māori knowledge systems and the creative practice of the Double Diamond model, guiding rangatahi through exploration, expression, and empowerment. Each pathway aligns with Te Whare Tapa Whā and Te Mauri Ora, supporting balance across mind, body, spirit, and whānau.
Together, these pathways empower rangatahi to explore who they are, express what they love, and step confidently into their future — grounded, creative, and connected.
We envision a world where every rangatahi stands strong in their identity and connection to community
TOA NZ Youth Program is designed to encourage youth who face barriers due to personal, social, or educational challenges. Through our approach, we help rangatahi reconnect with their whakapapa, strengthen their cultural and personal wellbeing, and ignite their creative potential — enabling them to move confidently toward future opportunities in employment, education, and training.
Discover how we develop
TOA NZ Framework
-
Along with the Maori foundations and the Te Whare Tapa Wha, Toa.NZ operates through the double diamond framework that acts as an overarching guide into everything that we do.
This provides the structure of the year, each 10x week pathway or term and how the weeks schedule is run.
-
Our session planning allows for clear identifiable goals in creation, delivery and tracking the engagement of the sessions.
TOA NZ sessions are planned out to start with a challenge and include the 4 D’s - Discover, Define, Develop, Deliver ending with an Outcome.
TOA NZ creates a multi-faceted learning environments for different types of communicators and neuro/ spectrum teenagers.
-
Toa NZ framework is shared with the students to guide them in tracking their own progress through each category in each session allowing them to better understand their own process and progress.
We ask questions like - What was the challenge? What did they discover, define, develop and deliver? Was there anything that made you stuck? What did you do to overcome this?
-
Learning happens before, during and after the activity when we see what we did and how we did it.
Toa NZ encourages students to be active in their own learning journey allowing them self-develop and build self-awareness.
-
Toa NZ operates through engaging modules that are interconnected with a larger or big picture goal, project or event.
This way of working keeps our rangatahi engaged and working both individually and together to progress towards a goal with intention and purpose.
We celebrate achievements that are big and small. We learn from all that goes into each part of the project or goal and collect evidence of learning along the way.
